FASTING
Fasting is not only a religious & spiritual activity but has also a proven medical benefit to the whole digestive system. Many persons who are following a religion fast regularly during festivals or have adopted a regular weekly fasting practice. Hindus have fasting days dedicated to Divinities and fasting is performed on specific days to also grant specific blessings. Monday is for Lord Shiva, Wednesday for Lord Krishna etc. For Tamils, Tuesday & Friday are considered auspicious while Muslims dedicate a great importance to Friday.
METHOD
The primary fasting method is to abstain from food & drinks completely for a specific duration. It is the most beneficial of all fasting methods. This gives rest to the digestive system and invigorates its performance. Of course, the overall health of the person must be taken into consideration before starting the primary fasting method. The secondary methods are various in number & may take the form of
The duration varies from 1 day to several days, depending on the health & abilities of the person. It also very often includes avoiding alcoholic drinks, cigarettes ,refraining from sex & sleeping on the floor.

PRECAUTIONS
For persons who are on regular medication, or with gastric problems, who are old, who are weak , these persons should be cautious before starting a fasting process. For those who are healthy & observing the primary fasting method, it is advisable not to force on the fasting believing that it shallyield greater results. Always observe the Golden Median Rule in anything you do, that is neither too little nor too much.
